Mary Elia, nee Maria Carmela Cascone, widow of Sylvester "Sam" who predeceased her in 1996, died on Sunday, July 22, 2012. She was 97. Born in Paterson the eldest of seven children of the late Vincenzo and Carmela (Mandara) Cascone, she lived in Fair Lawn coming to West Milford 33 years ago. Mrs. Elia, a homemaker, volunteered at Senior Citizens Nutrition, Hillcrest Community Center, was past Vice President of West Milford Golden Agers, and a member and volunteer at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Hewitt. Surviving are her daughters, Jeanne Walsh and her husband William of Lafayette and Lois Jaworski and her husband Edward of The Villages, Fla., a sister Rose Savastano of Juno Beach, Fla., grandchildren William, James, Kristen, Jason and Todd and great-grandchildren Liam, Isabella, Anthony, Ryan and Luke. Friends may visit on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Richards Funeral Home, 1440 Union Valley Road, West Milford. A funeral Liturgy will be held on Thursday, July 26, 2012 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Hewitt. Interment will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery, West Milford.
