Mary Louise (nee Daniel) Crevina of West Milford, N.J. died on Saturday, Aug. 26. She was 86.
She was born in New York City. After working herself through nursing school and becoming a registered nurse, Mary enlisted in the Air Force in 1953. She served her term of service as a psychiatric nurse first at Sampson Air Force Base in upstate New York, then at Sheppard Air Force Base Base in Wichita Falls, Texas. She was honorably discharged in 1955 with the rank of 2nd Lieutenant.
Mary returned to New Jersey where she raised her 5 children, Michael, Martin, Janet, Daniel and Mark. She and her family first lived in Passaic, then in Lodi, N.J. While raising her children she continued her nursing career working at Beth Israel Hospital, Passaic, N.J., first as a floor nurse, then as an emergency room nurse. She subsequently worked as an on-site nurse at Wallace & Tiernan, a manufacturing plant in Belleville, N.J.
Mary next moved to Montague, N.J. where she lived with her daughter, Janet, and continued her nursing career working for Dr. Arthur Krulewitz in Port Jervis, N.Y. Mary subsequently moved to Brick where she continued her career working as a head nurse at Lexington Rest Home in Lakewood, N.J.
In 1998 Mary moved to Bald Eagle Commons in West Milford, N.J. to be near her son Mark and his family.
Although retired, Mary remained active and for seven years volunteered as a teacher’s aide in the West Milford grade school system.
She is survived by two sisters, Lorraine Betencourt and June Lawson; and four of her children, Martin, Janet, Daniel and Mark; son-in-law John Kurzynowski; daughters-in-law Paulette Crevina and Jeanne Crevina, three grandchildren, John Kurzynowski, Mark Crevina and Alex Crevina; “adopted” daughter Patricia Barber, and her two children, Ryan and Jade and her grandchildren, Jax and Violet; her “adopted” son Bruce Sanger and his children, Melissa, Amanda and Zachary.
Mary was devoted to her family and friends and her presence in their lives will be sorely missed.
Funeral services took place Richards Funeral Home, 1440 Union Valley Road, West Milford, N.J., 07480 on Wednesday, Aug. 30.
