Patrick ‘Big Joe’ Doherty

Patrick “Big Joe” Doherty of Monroe passed away Monday, Feb. 27, 2012, at Orange Regional Medical Center in the Town of Wallkill. He was 81 and had been a resident of the area for 48 years.

Son of Patrick and Bridget Feeney Doherty, he was born Sept. 25, 1930, in New York City.

Patrick was the widower of Catherine Connolly Doherty.

Patrick worked with F.D.N.Y. Ladder 34 and retired as a lieutenant with the F.D.N.Y. Hook and Ladder 27 in the Bronx. He also was a retired registered nurse with St. Vincent’s Hospital Westchester in Harrison.

He was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Joseph Duelk, Jr., of Monroe, NY, a member and former treasurer with the American Legion Post #488 of Monroe and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving during the Korean War.

Survivors include his three daughters: Linda A. Prunier and her husband Joseph of Monroe, Patricia D. Lang and her husband Robert of Cornwall and Alicia F. Nager and her husband Ron of West Milford, N.J., and eight grandchildren: Aileen, Megan, William, Joseph, Catherine, Joseph, Brendan and Brian.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Friday, March 2, at Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush, Inc. Funeral Home, 117 Maple Ave., Monroe with an American Legion Service at 7:30 p.m.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 3, at Sacred Heart Church, 26 Still Road, Monroe with Rev. Brian Plate officiating. Interment will follow in Orange County Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Goshen.
