Richard P. Shortman, Sr., husband of the late Lorraine Ann, nee Gladic, died on Saturday, May 4, 2013. He was 85.
Born in Passaic the son of Peter and Helen (Moravchik) Shortman, he lived in Ramsey coming to West Milford 27 years ago. A World War II Navy veteran, serving in the 121st Sea Bee Battalion, Mr. Shortman was a retired self-employed contractor, T/A Richard Shortman General Contractor, West Milford. Richard was a member of United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America and also the Slovak Catholic Society, Passaic.
Surviving are sons Richard P., Jr. of Clifton, Robert A. of Oak Ridge, Gary J. of Alaska and Thomas Shortman of Mahwah, a brother Carl Shortman of Clifton, a sister Elaine Stampian of Pennsylvania, nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Along with his wife and parents, a daughter, Susan Shortman (2010) predeceased him.
Visiting will be held on Monday, May 13, 2013, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Richards Funeral Home, 1440 Union Valley Road, West Milford. Funeral Liturgy is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 14, at St. Joseph’s Church, West Milford. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
