    Richard R. Rome, 85, passed away on Aug. 19 at Milford Manor Nursing Home, West Milford. He was 85.
    Mr. Rome was born on Oct. 20, 1926 in Milton, to Jenny (nee Paulison) Rome and Alfred Rome and was raised in Jefferson Township.
    He proudly served in the US Army during World War II and was a chartered member of the American Legion Post 423 as well as a Life Member of the V.F.W. Post 564 in Jefferson Twp.
    Mr. Rome married Emma Marie (nee Beardslee) in 1947 and together they raised their children Hazel and Richard.
    Mr. Rome is survived by his wife Emma, his son Richard Rome and his wife Su Ann of Jefferson Township, his daughter Hazel VanZandt and her husband Wayne of High Point, N.C.; his five grandchildren Jeremiah and Jonathan Rome, both of Jefferson Township, Mindy Frank of Port Jervis, N.Y., Angela Thomas and her husband Scott of Punta Gorda, Fla., and David VanZandt and his wife Filiz of Greensboro, N.C..; three great-grandchildren, Aryanna and Javin Frank, and Emma VanZandt; his step-grandchildren, Sunshine and Alicia Kolb, and a step-great-grandson Michael Kolb.
    The family will receive visitors on Aug. 22, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Stickle-Soltesz Funeral Home, 187 LaRue Road, Newfoundland.
    A funeral service will take place on Aug. 23 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with the interment immediately following at Milton Cemetery, Milton.
