Robert F. Matthes, husband of Janet, nee Sorensen, died on Monday, Feb. 10, 2014. He was 85.
Born in West Long Branch the son of Frederick and Doris (Lane) Matthes, he lived in Old Tappan coming to Hewitt 20 years ago. A member of Military Officers Association of America (MOAA), he was a Korean War Navy veteran attaining the rank of lieutenant. Before retiring, Mr. Matthes worked in the shipping operations department for Stolt Nielsen Ltd., Greenwich, Conn.
Along with his wife, he is survived by daughters, Joyce S. Matthes of Hewitt and Karen M. Pierro and her husband, Michael, of Randolph, a brother, Frank H. Matthes of Hampton Bay, Long Island, and two grandchildren, Justin and Allison.
A gathering of family and friends and a memorial services ere held on Saturday, Feb. 15, at Richards Funeral Home, 1440 Union Valley Road, West Milford.
The family has requested donations to the American Cancer Society or your favorite charity.
