Newton — Stephen Lentini, of Newton, is one of this year’s recipients of a First Pioneer Farm Credit “Investing in First Pioneer’s Future” $1,500 scholarship. The son of Heidi and Anthony Lentini, he will enter University of Delaware this fall as an agribusiness major. Throughout his high school years, Lentini worked for Lentini Produce, his family’s Sussex County vegetable farm. Captain of the Kittatinny Regional High School football team for several years, Lentini worked on the family farm when not on the football field. He was also involved in peer leadership and volunteered his time with several organizations, including raising money for the Christiana Said Scholarship fund. Since childhood, Lentini has focused on a single career path — to expand his family business and eventually own his own vegetable operation. Blane Allen, a vice president and branch manager of First Pioneer’s Middletown office, said, “We award college scholarships annually to students pursuing careers in production agriculture, forestry, commercial fishing or agribusiness. Recipients are active in their communities and have demonstrated steps toward their career interests. This year, First Pioneer awarded $31,500 in scholarships to 21 remarkable students who aspire to reach their lifelong goals of making a difference in their agricultural communities.” Students interested in the 2009 scholarships should visit www.FirstPioneer.com in January for an application.
