Students compete in national tournament

Virginia Beach, Va. - Sarah Alderman of Sparta was among a group of Morristown-Beard field hockey players who competed on a national level against some of the country’s best players The others were: Katherine Feeney of Bernardsville, Julie Guempel of Madison and Danielle Rothman of Warren. They plays in the National Indoor Field Hockey Tournament. In addition to playing for Morristown-Beard School’s varsity field hockey team, the four players train and play for local travel clubs. Juniors Sarah and Katherine play for Spirit Eagles. Sophomores Julie and Danielle play for The Edge. In 25 years, the National Indoor Field Hockey Tournament has grown from a wintertime diversion to a full-time devotion. No longer just a small off-season affair, players use the National Indoor Tournament to continuously hone their skills in preparation for the upcoming fall season. In 2007, the National Indoor Tournament featured 164 teams over three tournament weekends: the Under-19 Tournament, Under-16 & Under-14 Tournament, and the Men’s & Women’s Open Tournaments.
