Alcohol and drug charges result from underage drinking party

    WEST MILFORD — A party involving approximately 40 youths resulted in 20 people charged with various alcohol and drug offenses. On January 13 the police responded to a noise complaint at Camp Ocawasin where they found a large party. Many of the party goers were underage and police determined that a number of them were consuming alcohol and drugs. Several people were taken into custody that night by the responding patrol officers, and as a result of a subsequent investigation a total of 11 juveniles and 9 adults were charged with offenses, including the owner of the property, Ross Imbruglia. Those charged include: Ross J. Imbruglia, 46, of 625 Macopin Rd. was charged with one count of maintaining a nuisance and one count of offering alcoholic beverages to underage persons. Both charges are disorderly persons offenses, punishable by up to six months incarceration and a $1000 fine for each offense. Imbruglia is the owner of Camp Ocawasin located at 625 Macopin Rd. The camp is a 55-acre property with a lakefront lodge and 15 cabins. Adam DeRito, 18, of 162 High Crest Dr., West Milford, was charged with providing alcohol to underage persons. Joseph R. Imbruglia, 18, of 625 Macopin Rd., West Milford, was charged with underage consumption of alcohol. Robert Haschak Jr., 19, of 4 Sussex Dr., West Milford, was charged with underage consumption of alcohol. Benjamin Jurgensen, 19, of 615 Morsetown Rd., West Milford, was charged with underage consumption of alcohol. Angel Diaz, 18, of 25 Lake Park Tr., Hewitt, was charged with possession of marijuana. Asa G. Monson, 18, of 1950 Greenwood Lake Tpk., Hewitt, was charged with possession of marijuana. James R. Morando, 19, of 29 Gladstone Rd., Hewitt, was charged with underage consumption of alcohol, possession of marijuana and distribution of marijuana. Collin F. Saum, 18, of 1331 Westbrook Rd., West Milford, was charged with underage consumption of alcohol, possession of marijuana and distribution of marijuana. All of the above were charged on summonses and will be scheduled to appear in the West Milford Municipal Court on a future date to answer the charges. Distribution charges filed against James Morando and Collin Saum are indictable fourth degree offenses punishable by up to 18 months in jail and $7500 in fines. Morando and Saum will be scheduled to appear at the Passaic County Superior Court to answer those charges. In addition to the above adults, 11 juveniles were charged with underage consumption of alcohol. All of the juveniles are West Milford residents. Their charges will be heard in the Passaic County Juvenile and Family Court. “The West Milford Police take a proactive and zero-tolerance approach to underage drinking and drug use,” states West Milford Police Chief Paul Costello. “The Department is committed to alcohol and drug education and awareness programs, however, when that doesn’t work, strict enforcement is needed, especially regarding adults who may be providing a place for this type of activity to occur.” The investigation of this incident was conducted by Det.
