The fall hawk watch season is quickly approaching. The annual hawk count at Wildcat Ridge in Northern Morris County off Rt. 513 will continue, but volunteers are needed. Hawks migrating through and over the valley at Wildcat Ridge from August 15 through November 15 and again in the spring from Feb 15 through May 15 need to be counted. The hawk watch is manned in daylight hours during the migration seasons. Counters are encouraged to volunteer for any amount of time, even if it is only a few hours a week. The watchers at Wildcat Ridge are willing to train any individual with an interest. Trainees are welcome to come anytime to develop the skills needed for proper identification. To become a volunteer please visit our website at www.njfishandwildlife.com/wcchome.htm, print out an application, and send it to the address on the application.
