WEST MILFORD West Milford Police Department received numerous reports of burglaries and thefts from parked vehicles during the summer. In October Detective Joseph Walker charged three juveniles ages 15,16 and 17 with burglary and theft from numerous vehicles located in the Sreenbrook Estates and Pinecliff Lake areas. Last week the West Milford Police Department made two additional arrests in unrelated incidents. Two juveniles age 17 were arrested and charged with numerous counts of burglary and thefts from vehicles. These incidents occurred in the areas of Old Milford Estates, Ridge Road, Bald Eagle Village and Morsetown Road, Both juveniles had been apprehended and charged in Wanaque two weeks ago for similar incidents. There are many unresolved cases presently under investigation and additional arrests are anticipated. Detective’s John Calabrese and Robert Congleton of the West Milford Police Department have investigated these cases. Citizens are reminded to secure their vehicles when parked and keep nothing of value in them. A common practice of juveniles is to engage in an activity referred to as, “Car Shopping or Car Jacking.” Perpetrators will enter unsecured vehicles and garages and remove wallets, currency, I-Pods, and other electronic devices. In many cases victims are not reporting these incidents because they are unaware that the event occurred. This phenomenon usually occurs during the overnight hours. Any citizens with additional cases or information should contact the West Milford Police Department at 973-728-2801 or 2802.
