WEST MILFORD-The Parks & Recreation Department is sponsoring six different art classes for adults this autumn. All classes will be held at the Hillcrest Community Center. Water Color for the Beginner is an eight-week class that runs on Thursdays, from 7-9 p.m starting Sept. 30. This will be a hands-on approach to bring out the artist in those attending. Explore the richness of water colors through various techniques such as washes, glazing, dry-brushing, wet into wet, etc. Theory and materials will also be discussed. A list of materials will be made available before the first class. The instructor is Philip P. Gebbia. Painting Portraits in Oil and Pastels is a six-week class on Saturday mornings, beginning Sept. 25, from 10-12 noon. Beginner to experienced, any skill level is welcome. Bring existing painting or pastel equipment to the first class and a list will be provided. The instructor is Cesar Jerez. Introduction to Painting Outdoors in Oils is a six-week class that will be offered Saturday afternoons, beginning Sept. 25, from 1-3 p.m. All skill levels are welcome. Classes will cover the necessary elements, including the do's and don'ts of painting in oil outdoors. Bring existing painting equipment to the first class and an additional list will be provided. The instructor is Cesar Jerez. All About Art is a 20-class program on Friday evenings, beginning Oct. 1, from 7-10 p.m. This is comprehensive course on the anatomy of an artistic composition, if participants have a work in progress, they are urged to bring it to class. The instructor is Vince Heuring. Wood Block and Relief Print-making is a four-week class being held on Saturdays, beginning Oct. 16 from 1-4 p.m. This is an introduction to woodblock and relief printing. Students will develop and carve an image into a wood block and will learn the techniques of transferring multiple editions to paper. Random object and color edition printing methods will also be explored. Basic materials will be available for the first class. An additional list will be provided at that time. The instructor is Jeff Birdsill. Portrait Workshop is a one day class that is being offered on Saturday, Oct. 16th, from 12-4 p.m. The cost if $45. Students will learn the basics and fine points of drawing portraits from life. The course will be taught by Laurie Harden. Her illustrations have been in publications such as the New York Times and Redbook, and her fine arts works have been collected internationally. Students are required to bring a sketch pad, charcoal (pencils and/or sticks), kneaded eraser, pencils.
