West Milford — The West Milford Township has passed an ordinance requiring the licensure of all commercial fertilizer applicators conducting business in West Milford Township effective April 17, 2007. The purpose of this ordinance is to prohibit the use of fertilizer containing phosphorous, with exceptions, to protect our waterways. If applicable, a commercial license must be obtained prior to the use of any fertilizer in town. A copy of the ordinance and an application was mailed to area landscapers. Those who have not received an application in the mail, may call the West Milford Health Department at 973-728-2720 and request an application sent by mail or may pick one up at the Health Department located at 1480 Union Valley Road. A business found to be operating without the required license is subject to penalties including a fine up to $2,000. For questions concerning licensing procedures or requirements, feel free to contact the Health Department.
