Bakers invited to compete in fruit pie contest in Warwick

    Warwick — The Warwick Town Fair will hold a fruit pie baking contest on Sunday, Sept. 3. There are no entrance applications or qualifying criteria, except that pies must be made from scratch. All entrants need to have their pies in the Warwick Valley Community Center kitchen by 1:30 p.m.Judges will announce the first and second-place winners from the outdoor stage at 2:30 p.m., immediately following Marty Kupersmith’s performance. Kupersmith was an original member of Jay and the Americans. Local celebrity judges are Jody Weatherstone, winner of many first-place pie-baking ribbons; pastry chef Nicole Stein, graduate of Culinary Institute of America and owner of “Cakes by Nicole” in Greenwood Lake; and Town Supervisor Michael Sweeton, who knows a good fruit pie when he tastes one.
