WEST MILFORD The Coffee House, sponsored by West Milford Parks & Recreation and CASA, held their fifth annual Battle of the Bands on Saturday, September 24 at Westbrook Park. The event was extremely successful, featuring 15 bands, many of them from West Milford this year. The event ran all day with alternating bands on two separate stages. Over 500 people were in attendance and the crowd was well behaved. There was no moshing. Judging was by Shawn Reams of North Jersey Guitar, Randy Saracco, and Steve Fontana. The success of the event was in large part due to the efforts of Nigel Thurstans, the Music and Events Coordinator for the Coffee House. Paul Reilly and his crew handled set-up, Tab Sanders lent an abundance of energy, Jimmy the Barber, Mark Russo, and Speyside for lent equipment, Angela Wilson handled the concessions, Lehman Mann, Chris Rahey and Joe Smolinski for “kept an eye out”, The Elks Club and Kurt provided ice, and the staff in general worked hard. The winners were: First Place, “16 Millimeter Shrine”; Second Place, “SPEYSIDE”; Third Place “Burn the Bridge”. All proceeds went to benefit The Teen Coffee House. If you would like to make a donation to The Coffee House please mark it “Teen Coffee House” and send it to Parks & Recreation, 1810 Macopin Road, West Milford, NJ 07480. Saturday nights are “band night” at The Coffee House. Any bands wanting to play throughout the year should leave a message weekdays at 973-728-4914 or The Coffee House at 973-697-0867.
