WEST MILFORD — On June 24, 2007 West Milford High School will be hosting a benefit walk to raise money for the Goebel family in West Milford. Jack Goebel, a fourth generation Goebel, has been diagnosed with brain cancer. The event will take place from 9-11:30 a.m. for a 5K walk. Registration is $20 per adult and $10 for students. Lunch will be provided along with door prizes. A 50/50 raffle and a bake sale will take place as well. All are welcome and volunteers are still needed. The Goebel family was the first family in 1939 to build on Pinecliff Lake. The Goebel’s used the redwood log cabin as a summer home in the 1950s and 60s and then moved into the house permanently for retirement. Jack, who was born and raised in Ramsey, N.J., moved up to West Milford at Pinecliff Lake after marrying his wife Lena. He was vice president of Saddle River Landscaping with his brother Nick Goebel for 20 years. Along with Jack and Lena’s participation in the community, Jack’s uncle, Bob Goebel was also a long-time resident as well as president of both The Board of Education and The Veterans Council. Jack’s father John Paul Goebel, noted fashion designer, currently resides in the redwood lodge. Jack and Lena have two children Andrea, 18 and Niklas, 13. Along with coordinating the awareness walk for her father, Andrea will be graduating from West Milford High School that weekend and will be attending Passaic Community College in the fall. Niklas, an avid fisherman, placed first in his age division for the NJ Junior Bass Masters Federation as a rookie and will be competing in Arkansas for the national event representing New Jersey, his family and the city of West Milford.
