WEST MILFORD —The girls in Brownie Troop 807 got a surprise during their year end party. The troop, led by Tracey Travers and her assistant Celeste Byrnes, consists of nine girls. The party was planned around a Harry Potter theme, but it wasn’t just because someone bought decorated paper plates and cups. The girls followed a “summer orientation for Hogwarts Academy.” Anyone who has read the Harry Potter books or seen the movies would recognize the activities. They were sorted into houses and went to various “classes” where they made a wand, learned to make potions, learned about creepy crawlie things and had their fortunes read. Nancy Simonds, who read tarot cards for the girls, donated her time to the party. (Simonds reads cards on Saturday nights at Cafe, Cafe in Butler) and Skylands CLEAN lent a real stuffed owl to the festivities. But the highlight of the event had the girls sqealing with delight. Local blacksmith Ada Erik brought a “unicorn,” complete with a horn and sparkling hooves.
