Tanis Chiropractic, located on Union Valley Road, has added a new member to its staff, Dr. Justin Di Maio.

“It’s been great (so far),” Di Maio said. “I’ve established a pretty good relationship with a lot of people in town.”

Di Maio, who’s originally from Wayne, joined the staff in January after spending the previous four years as an associate chiropractor at Advanced Sports Medicine and Physical Therapy in Riverdale.

That’s where he met his future wife, Dr. Nicole Torp, a West Milford native, who began working at Tanis Chiropractic two years ago.

While Di Maio eventually followed suit, the hometown connection wasn’t the only reason that he and his wife chose to make the move to the West Milford practice.

“My old (job) was a lot more like, you got hurt, you went to the office, and then once you were better, you never went in again,” said Di Maio.

Di Maio and his wife, who have a two-year-old son, were looking for a more familial atmosphere, which he believes they’ve found here in West Milford.

“Everyone, when they’re in the waiting room, kind of say hi to each other as if it’s already a family relationship here. That’s really refreshing,” Di Maio said. “People feel like they are connected to our office a little bit more and that’s how Nicole and I wanted to set up for the future. This is the kind of practice that we want to be at.”

Di Maio earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology at Ramapo College before receiving his Doctor of Chiropractic from the Palmer College of Chiropractic in 2014.

Now, Di Maio specializes in youth athletes.

“Whether it’s people that are pretty high up there like college and pro athletes to just youth athletes in town, that’s where I want to kind of focus much of my attention on,” he said. “Just making the kids be able to get through their seasons as pain-free as possible.”

As far as what Di Maio expects moving forward, he simply wants to continue working up to the same standards already set by Dr. David and Dr. Lora Tanis.

“My hope is just to gain the trust in the community and to get everyone to feel comfortable and confident that they’re going to come to this office and continue to experience the same type of care and relationships that they’ve already established with Lora and Dave (Tanis).”
