WEST MILFORD — A benefit rock concert will be held Friday, January 5, at West Milford Township High School, featuring The Monster, Fossil Fuel, Rob Deposit Band, My Buddy Paul, Lucky Day 7, and Brandon Van Allen. The concert proceeds will be given to the family of a Class of ’06 member who was stricken with leukemia, and whose father was also diagnosed with cancer, and to the School Improvement Committee, who will distribute funds to needy families. Amanda McKinnon, who graduated in June, from West Milford High School, was admitted to the hospital on June 27, six days after her eighteenth birthday. She received six months of treatment at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan, and returned December 11 for additional chemotherapy and radiation treatments so she can undergo a bone marrow transplant from her younger sister, Meaghan. Amanda’s father has been receiving radiation treatments five days each week, and should be concluding treatment soon. The medical expenses this family has incurred are immense. The WMTHS School Improvement Committee undertakes projects to improve the daily experiences and environment of students and staff. This year, a number of fundraising activities have focused on providing tangible assistance to families of students. A recent “Pajama Day” and bake sale raised funds used to purchase gift certificates for holiday groceries. Before and during the concert intermission, a bake sale will be held in the high school auditorium lobby, and popcorn and bottled water will also be sold. All proceeds will be used to benefit those in need. The concert will begin at 7 p.m. For advance tickets or for further information, e-mail concert@wmtps.org.
