RINGWOOD — Dignitaries gathered at the Raykov property on Friday, June 23 for a ribbon cutting ceremony. The forested land, which is situated above both the Wanaque and Monksville Reservoirs, was purchased for watershed protection. The purchase of the 52 acre piece of land was a joint project of the Wanaque/Monksville Watershed Preservation Partnership which is comprised of the North Jersey District Water Supply Commission, United Water New Jersey, Morris Land Conservancy and the Palisades Interstate Park Commission. The County of Passaic contributed $250,000 towards the purchase price of $499,000. The New Jersey Water Supply Commission donated additional funding of $200,000 and the Borough of Ringwood contributed $49,000 to the purchase. The property, along Margaret King Avenue, will be added to Passaic County’s Tranquility Ridge Park. Passaic County will own the land, the Morris Land Conservancy negotiated the purchase and Palisades Interstate Park Commission will manage the property.
