Two employees sent for evaluations WEST Milford — By the end of July kids are well into their summer activities and school is the furthest thing from their minds. But workers in the district have been painting, cleaning and repairing in preparation for September. Tuesday night, Superintendent Glenn Kamp told the board that almost all the 2006/2007 positions were filled and that nearly all the scheduled maintenance projects were complete. As the board was approving employee contracts for the year, President Midge Touw and Wayne Gottlieb voted no to the contracts of 15 employees. Those employees were presented as a group, but included jobs ranging from part-time clerical support to business administrator Steven Cea. The reason they were grouped together was because they are the only people in the district unaffiliated with a union or other bargaining representatives. Touw said the reason she voted against it was “because they’re all lumped together. There are some salaries here I have serious doubts about. “ She said she would have been more comfortable voting on each of the 15 individually. The majority of the board, however, voted yes on the motion and it passed. In an unusual move, the board passed a motion to force two employees to “undergo complete psychiatric and physical examinations. The employees and their positions were kept confidential. The motion came at the recommendation of Kamp. In both cases, each employee was described as having shown “evidence of deviation from normal physical and/or mental health.” A phone call to Kamp to find out whether the employees were currently working or expected to start working again in September was not answered before the paper went to press.
