PATERSON The county is sponsoring a Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. today Friday, April 7 at the City of Passaic Department of Public Works Garage on Central Avenue. The event will run rain or shine. This event is free of charge to any Passaic County resident. Proof of residency is required. Items that are accepted include pesticides and herbicides, oil base paints and stains, lawn and pool chemicals, household cleaners and chemicals, household and automobile batteries, old fluorescent light bulbs, used motor oil and antifreeze, old gasoline and oil mixtures, old smoke detectors and fire extinguishers. Medical waste and explosives are not acceptable for disposal. Materials must be brought to the site in their original containers and be clearly marked, since the mixing of certain chemicals can be extremely dangerous. Any oil, antifreeze or oil and gas mixtures should be brought to the collection in disposable containers.
