West Milford When Jolene Cash was a teenager, she was happily occupied giving riding lessons on her father’s farm on Westbrook Road in West Milford. Her dad, George Alala, has owned the 10-acre Hidden Acres Farm tract for the last 25 years, a hobby farm, Jolene said. Today, the farm is a business venture involving the whole family: mother, father, brother, Jolene and her husband, Brian, and now there are two new additions and future horsemen in the barn yard, the Cash’s three-year-old son, Jack, and 14-month-old daughter, Ciara. When Jolene, 25, accompanied a riding student’s parents on a horse buying trip to Ireland, she met horse breeder Brian Cash. They dated long distance for a while and at age 19 she moved to Ireland. She came back to the United States in January 2011 with her family in tow and now she and Brian manage the operation of the farm. A new look to the farm Hidden Acres Farm has undergone extensive renovation and improvements since the Cash’s return. This professional boarding and training facility has two arenas, 19 stalls, shaded turnout paddocks, a clubhouse and a new climate-controlled viewing room overlooking the indoor arena. “We’ve been pretty busy. People may have known the farm in the past but it’s had a whole transformation,” Jolene said. The family prides itself on its now state-of-the-art facilities, its care and comfort of the horses and the satisfaction of their owners and its students. It’s a team effort at Hidden Acre Farm where the whole family put their backs into the farm’s success. Riding lessons are available for adults and youngsters. They enjoy nurturing young talent and, as a matter of fact, three-year-old Jack is no stranger to the saddle. A horse background As the daughter of two champion horsemen, Jolene knows the equestrian life and loves it. Prior to living in Europe, Jolene was an award-winning rider in the United States. While overseas, Brian and Jolene specialized in Grand Prix show jumpers on the English and Irish circuits. They now pool their experience to benefit the students and horse owners at their West Milford farm. Brian comes from a family of renowned breeders of Irish Sport Horses. He has years of training experience and his contacts in Ireland and England open the door for stress-free purchasing and importing transactions. The value of equestrian life Jolene very much enjoys working with children. Seeing them smile as they attain the next level of horsemanship is her reward. She’s spent her life around horses and knows the value of the equestrian life, especially for children. This year, in a combined effort with the township’s recreation department, Hidden Acres Farm will be holding a winter riding camp, Dec. 26-30. Further information on the camp or any of the services provided at the farm can be obtained by calling Jolene at 973-997-5483 or e-mailing her at info@hiddenacresequestrian.com.
