Young children and fellow servicemen were among those that came bearing flags and tears at the township memorial, which featured several speakers who stressed the importance of supporting the troops.Van Dyk held a special luncheon for their 27 veterans on November 10. The West Milford American Legion was present to honor the vets. Resident Kenneth Hill, along with Patrick Longhman and Ed Nolan from the West Milford American Legion were present.
