JEFFERSON-The Jefferson Township Recreation Department in conjunction with the US Sports Institute is offering a different experience for children ages 3 to 5 years of age. USSI will help pre-schoolers experience a multitude of sports such as soccer, basketball, lacrosse, softball and more in a safe, structured environment. All games and activities will encompass hand/eye coordination, balance, agility, and movement - all key factors to the early development of children in sports. In addition, children will develop social interaction and communication skills. The Fall Sports Squirts program will be held in two Jefferson Township locations. The first sessions will be held at Chamberlain Field in the Waters' Edge development on Chamberlain Road from 9:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. and another session from 10:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. for six consecutive weeks beginning Tuesday Sept. 21 through Oct. 26. The second session will be held at Lakeside Field on Route 15 South in Lake Hopatcong from 9:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. and another session from 10:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. for six consecutive weeks beginning Friday, Sept. 24. Forms are available in the display racks at the Jefferson Township Public Library and the Jefferson Township Municipal Building, or by mail through the Recreation Office by calling 973-208-3638 or 973-208-6139. All sports are developed through a series of games and activities designed to ensure learning and most importantly to have fun. Participants only need to bring a willingness to learn, plenty to drink, a snack, and most importantly a smile. It is recommended that appropriate clothing for sporting activities and sneakers be worn. There is limited space so register early to avoid disappointment. All campers receive a free USSI tee shirt and certificate!
