    Monroe July 4th. Beginning at 4 p.m. the town of Monroe will celebrate independence between the ponds with music and food. The merriment will continue until the fireworks at dusk. Enjoy foods and crafts at Algonquin Park for Newburgh's Community Day, commencing at 6 p.m. Activities include games and a live concert, followed by fireworks at dark. For more information, please call (845) 564-7815. Vails Gate July 3rd and 4th. Visit both of Vails Gate's historic sites on this exciting occasion. Both share the hours of 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. on Sunday. The New Windsor Cantonment will feature musket and cannon firing and a reading of the Declaration of Independence. Knox's Headquarters will have special exhibits on 18th century cooking, tours of the 1754 headquarters building, and cannon firing. Come listen to the West Point Band's Independence Day performance at 8 p.m. at the Trophy Point Amphitheater. The concert will be followed by a spectacular fireworks show. Please allow extra time for security. For prime seats, recommended arrival time is a couple of hours before the show; however, for other seats, still be sure to come no less than a half hour early. For more information, please call (845) 938-2445. WAYNE July 1st. Come to the Wayne Valley High School field on Valley Road for entertainment, food, clowns, magicians, live music and DJ. Festivities begin at 7 p.m. and conclude with fireworks at 9 p.m. Admission is $10 per family including parking. For more information, please call (973) 696-2896. FRANKLIN June 30-July 3. Come enjoy the free carnival at Franklin Pond Recreational Area. Hours are: Wednesday and Thursday 6pm-10pm, Friday and Saturday 6pm- 11pm. The rides, food, and games are fun for all ages. Entertainment will be provided by WSUS Radio, with a different DJ each night. There will also be Little Miss, Little Mister, Junior Miss and Miss Teen competitions. Watch the Fire Department-sponsored parade at 1 p.m., marching down East Shore Trail through the plaza and finishing at the Mohawk Avenue School.
