West Milford — Energetic physical movement, mixed with lots of fun music, is the way to creator and founder Judi Sheppard Missett explains Junior Jazzercise. The specialized program for boys and girls, ages 7 to 11, introduces children to the world of dance, music and fitness. Trained instructors teach students dance positions, terminology and proper execution as they lead games and routines designed to improve body control, flexibility, coordination and cardiovascular endurance. Based on sound principles of exercise and dance physiology, Junior Jazzercise classes offer a high-energy workout with an emphasis on physical fitness. Junior Jazzercisers develop a strong sense of accomplishment and build a better self- image through their participation in the program. A non-competitive atmosphere allows them to relax and work together toward a common goal. Christine Leonescu will teach Junior Jazzercise classes for 10 weeks on Thursdays from 4 to 5 p.m. beginning on Sept. 13; the cost will be $100 or a $12 walk-in fee. Classes will be held at the West Milford Jazzercise Fitness Center located at 1884 Union Valley Road (behind Lakeland Auto Parts). Classes are scheduled to begin promptly at 4:10 p.m. Now celebrating its 37th year, Jazzercise is the world’s leading dance-fitness program. With more than 6300 instructors teaching 20,000 classes weekly worldwide, the comprehensive program, designed to enhance cardiovascular endurance, strength, and flexibility has helped millions of people of all ages and fitness levels reap the benefits of exercise and improve well-being.
