TRENTON, N.J. — Motorists would get more time to report a malfunctioning new car under a measure endorsed that would extend coverage under the state’s “lemon law.” The state Senate Commerce Committee on Feb. 9 approved the bill, which would let consumers report a problem vehicle during the first 24,000 miles or two years of service, whichever is sooner. The current law requires reporting during the first 18,000 miles or two years, whichever is earlier.
