West Milford Eye-popping displays of literally every upcoming book greeted West Milford Township Library staff as they joined 4,000 librarians and 36,000 book buyers on June 1 to attend BookExpo America, a four-day conference with the largest selection of English language books in the world. The conference gave the staff the opportunity to preview forthcoming titles, meet authors in person, and explore new formats like electronic books and downloadable movies. Staff who attended the book expo included Patricia Hannon, library director, Joanne Grady, head of Adult Services, Theresa McArthur, head of Children’s Services, and Elyse Schear, library associate. The annual conference, which was held this year from May 31 to June 3 at the Jacob Javits center in New York City, is geared to publishers, booksellers, librarians, and rights professionals from around the world. This year, the Javits center was filled with the booths of more than 2,000 exhibitors, and more than 80 instructional seminars were offered. There were special events, author luncheons, and nearly 1200 authors were on hand to promote their books and sign autographs. Throughout the conference, hundreds of attendees lined up to get autographs from their favorite authors.
