WEST MILFORD Thanks to a donation from resident John Aiello, the elementary schools in West Milford can again participate in the National Academic Achievement Award Foundation’s Mini-motivator program. Mini-motivators are books, and toys that educators can use as incentive awards, in recognition of academic achievement and acts of good character. Westbrook School Principal Joan Oberer, (pictured with foundation chair Paul Bailey and board member Dennis Kirwan) welcomes the program, saying, “It really motivates the students to strive to do their best.” The founder and chairman of the NAAAF, Bailey said, “The Mini-motivator program has been successful in every school. The kids love it, and educators appreciate having a way to show them that there is a real world reward for studying hard and having a positive community attitude. It’s a big thing in their little lives.” Kirwan added, “Rewarding kids while they are young, sets the habit, while they are still developing their value system. I have seen how excited my own kids are when they come home with a Mini-motivator reward. This really does make a difference.” The NAAAF programs are available to all schools, based on local donors and community involvement. Their unique incentive’ approach also appears in their Triple A Scholarship, a cash award placed in a 529 College Investment Account, that spans grades 6 through 12. To qualify, students need to show a two grade-point average increase in Math, Science, and English, from the prior year. The NAAAF is a 501(c)(3) Not-For-Profit, whose mission is to provide an incentive-based approach to academic achievement and character development.
