The West Milford Board of Education hired two new principals at its meeting June 17.

Joseph Alloy was brought on as principal of Upper Greenwood Lake Elementary School and Leah Sinisi was hired as principal of Apshawa Elementary School. Both will earn $130,000 a year.

Alloy replaces Jared Fowler, who had the job for two years. He resigned effective June 30.

Sinisi replaces Dana Swarts, who was named principal at Apshawa after the board voted to close Westbrook Elementary School starting with the 2023-24 school year. She had been Westbrook’s principal since January 2017.

Jonathan Cammes was hired to fill a new computer technology position for $42,000 a year.

Superintendent Brian Kitchin said the district had 45 applicants for the positions. Candidates were interviewed by panels of parents, staff and administrators.

The board discussed expanding the dual enrollment program which allows high school students to earn college credits for certain courses.

The credits are earned in conjunction with Passaic County Community College, William Paterson University in Wayne and Ryder University in Lawrenceville, and they typically are transferable to any New Jersey college.

Students may have the credits accepted at out-of-state schools as well. The board would like to offer more courses with college credit.

The board also retained the district’s three insurance brokers: CBIZ Centric Insurance Agenda of New Providence for risk management, the Burton Agency of Westwood for pooled insurance, and Brown and Brown Benefits Advisors of Lambertville for medical and dental.

Kitchin recognized the high school Highlander Marching Band for winning the Group IV State Championship.
