WEST MILFORD — Some things are just better when they come in two. Think of famous siblings, Peyton and Eli Manning, Serena and Venus Williams, Emily and Zooey Deschanel, Mark and Donnie Wahlberg and famous pairs, Laverne and Shirley, Lennie and Squiggie and Bert and Ernie.
There are two sets of two that are not famous at the West Milford Animal Shelter, but they want to be.
The first is a pair of long-haired Dachshunds named Max and Henry. They are eight-years-old and love to spend all their time together. They are also very cute, loving, and people loving. Henry has the darker ears and Max has Addison's Disease.
In Addison's disease, the adrenal glands don't make enough of a hormone called cortisol, or less often, a related hormone called aldosterone. That's why doctors sometimes call the illness "chronic adrenal insufficiency," or hypocortisolism. Max takes a very tiny pill every day (very easily in a piece of cheese) and his condition seems to be well controlled.
The second pair are two cats that are not related but grew-up together. Wanda is a lovely black cat who is eight-years-old and Wanda is a pretty gray cat with a stubby tail who is 10-years-old. They are very devoted to each other. They love to greet visitors to the shelters and interact with other cats but they always come back to each other. Both are friendly and love to give and receive attention. They have been at the shelter for quite some time.
What these two pairs want to be famous for is having their photos marked "adopted" on the shelter's Web site and two facebook pages. They don't want fame or glory; they want a family and home where they are both wanted and loved.
And remember, the shelter's Walk-A-Dog-A-Thon will be held on Sunday, Oct. 20, this year. Check out the Web site and facebook pages for information on the event and all the lovely pets in need of homes.
