WEST MILFORD — The Association for Special Children and Families (ASCF) is helping parents get ready for the new school year by offering a free workshop on "Understanding Basic Rights in Special Education," on Friday, Sept. 7, at 10 a.m. It will be held at Hillcrest Community Center, Room 21, 1810 Macopin Road in West Milford.
This is an introduction to the rights and responsibilities of parents of children with special needs under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, a federal law known as IDEA, the state Special Education Code and Section 504 of the Vocational Rehabilitation Act.
The following week, the ASCF will be offering an Assistive Technology Fair on Friday, Sept. 14, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Hillcrest Community Center Gym. ASCF is a community parent resource center funded by the United States Department of Education, Office of Special Education.
