WEST MILFORD — The Association for Special Children and Families (ASCF), a community parent resource center for families who have children with disabilities, is offering free workshops for parents, caregivers and others.
One free workshop is "Basic Rights in Special Education," offered in Spanish only. Parents will learn their rights and responsibilities under federal and state law. They will learn advocacy strategies that will help them help their children receive an appropriate education. It will be held on Wednesday, July 10, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Hillcrest Community Center, 1810 Macopin Road, West Milford.
Another free workshop is on Saturday, July 27, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. presented by Andrew D. Linenberg, disability attorney from the law offices of Hinkle, Fingles and Prior. The topic is "Eligibility and Services for Children and Adults With Disabilities." The attorney will discuss changes in children's services available from the Department of Children and Families and adult services for those 21 years of age and older from the Division of Developmental Disabilities. This workshop will also be at Hillcrest Community Center, in Room 18.
