Over 150 years old, the Awosting Inn was demolished last Wednesday and Thursday, Aug. 29 and 30. Many folks believe this to be The Fuller House, a hotel where folks from New York City would stay back at the turn of the previous century after taking the train to Greenwood Lake. In 2004, the township planning board rejected the Historic Preservation Commission's recommendation to grant historic designation to the Awosting Inn, saving it from demise. The Awosting Association owns the inn and wanted, at the time, to build a new community building, saying the inn was no longer viable as a gathering place.
