WEST MILFORD —The West Milford Health Department will be holding a blood-screening program called the “S.M.A.C Test,” Sequential Multiple and Analysis Test. Registration will take place be on Monday, March 26, 2012 and Tuesday, March 27, 2012 from 12 noon to 2 p.m. and again at 5 to 7 p.m. at the West Milford Township Meeting Room.

The blood test date is scheduled for Saturday, April 14, from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Town Hall Meeting Room for residents 16 years and older. The legal guardian or parent must register minors and must be present during the testing. Minor test results must be sent to a medical doctor.

The test is comprised of a computerized analysis of a mandatory 12-hour fasting blood sample. The results from a S.M.A.C. test may alert you and your physician to health problems. This test contains several studies including a complete blood count (CBC) and blood chemistry. The cardiac profile includes testing for LDL and HDL cholesterol. These results are generated into a formula called CHD risk ratio which analyzes the risk of having a cardiac problem. The test results may also indicate problems with anemia, high blood sugar or high blood cholesterol.

No refunds are available and there is no make-up date for any of the testing.
