The students of the West Milford High School Italian 4 honors class were treated to a special cultural event last month.
Vincenza Certosimo, their Italian teacher, arranged for her 20-year-old cousin, Angela, along with her mom, from Italy to visit her classroom. The students were engaged in a question and answer session with the guest, whom they regarded as “friendly, funny, and pretty.” Topics of discussion ranged from the school system in Italy to the difficulty of passing a driver’s license test. Angela was quite impressed with the students’ communication skills, and the students were excited to converse with a native in their own age group. The next day, the students wrote about their experience in their journals. They were surprised by a note left by Angela and her mom thanking the students for a pleasant experience and telling the kids they will wait for them in Italy!
