WARWICK — Everyone is welcome to gather at 10 a.m. on Sunday, July 29, at the Warwick Valley Community Center, located at 11 Hamilton Ave. in Warwick, for the “Break the Stigma” walk, which will step off at 10:30 a.m.
The free event and walk through the village is an effort to raise awareness by promoting transparency among individuals and families impacted by substance use disorder.
“Whether it is you, a family member, significant other, friend, son or daughter, almost everyone’s lives have been impacted in some way by addiction,” said Annie Colonna, Director of Prevention Services.
Participants will walk to the Railroad Green where they will assemble to share or listen to stories and speakers as well as obtain information such as statics on the impact of addiction.
The assembly will end at approximately 12:30 to 1 p.m.
Beginning at 2 p.m., there will be fun family-friendly games and events including live music, refreshments and a cornhole tournament at the Community Center.
The mission of “Break the Stigma” is to offer strength, wisdom, encouragement, support, guidance and resources to lay the foundation in promoting healthy coping strategies for all individuals, no matter how affected.
