New Jersey resident Rachel Lyons plans to open Jersey Roots Dispensary to sell cannabis products at 1433 Union Valley Road in West Milford this summer.

The business recently received state and local approvals.

Lyons, owner and chief executive, said her goal is to provide a personalized experience with unparalleled customer service and competitively priced products.

She has been a practicing pharmacist for 10 years and was a dispensary pharmacist manager for a medicinal cannabis company before launching her company.

“Once I saw the benefits of this product and how medicinal patients were benefiting from it, I saw that this was something special. When used properly and safely, there’s just a whole host of benefits with cannabis,” she said.

Educating the community about cannabis use is important to her.

“We really have to stress the safe and effective use of cannabis products. I am a mother of two young children so I cannot stress enough the importance of education while promoting the safe and effective use of cannabis in adults only.”

Lyons said she was lucky to find a location in West Milford.

“A big hurdle was finding a location because many municipalities still do not approve the use in town. I just got really, really lucky with this location. The town has been very receptive and very welcoming to us thus far.”

Earlier this year, the Township Council approved a resolution in support of Jersey Roots Dispensary.

Unlike many other suburban New Jersey towns, West Milford officials voted to permit cannabis businesses in the Village Commercial Zone after a statewide referendum to legalize recreational use of marijuana was approved in 2020.

Lyons said Jersey Roots Dispensary aims to give back to West Milford and its residents.

“We’re committed to finding different ways to help our neighbors whenever possible. Our idea is to promote extensive community outreach. We want to hire within the community. We want to get involved with different fundraisers and sponsorships and connect with different nonprofits.”
