Pompton Plains — Chilton Hospital’s Comprehensive Breast Center has been designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR).

By awarding facilities the status of a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence, the ACR recognizes breast imaging centers that have earned accreditation in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, and breast ultrasound (including ultrasound-guided breast biopsy).

Peer-review evaluations, conducted in each breast imaging modality by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field, have determined that this facility has achieved high practice standards in image quality, personnel qualifications, facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs.

Chilton Hospital’s Comprehensive Breast Center has been completely transformed through a $1.6 million renovation to provide a warmer, more comfortable experience for the 15,000 women it serves each year. The Center offers digital screening and diagnostic mammography, as well as breast ultrasound and MRI, and bone densitometry. A third digital mammography unit, two brand new state-of-the-art ultrasound machines, and a new bone density machine were added as part of the renovation project. All biopsy equipment used to perform stereotactic, ultrasound-guided and MRI-guided breast biopsies is regularly updated.

The Comprehensive Breast Center offers the region’s top breast specialists with tranquil, soothing surroundings, significantly reduced wait times and an array of special services and amenities to facilitate breast health and all stages of breast cancer treatment, including a wellness boutique, which provides prostheses and bra fittings for mastectomy patients in a private, comfortable setting. The Comprehensive Breast Center also provides breast health education and emotional support along with Community Health programs on topics such as nutrition, stress management and complementary medicine.
