WEST MILFORD — Fifth and sixth Grade students at Upper Greenwood Lake Elementary School participated in a study of the brain as part of the West Milford's enrichment program called Learning Unlimited.
Fifth graders John and Aryan focused on the frontal lobe, particularly the different variables affecting a person's unique interpretation of stimulus, in addition to the specific stages of development associated with the teenage mind. Suggestions included "compliment people and surround yourself with people you like in order to stay happy."
As part of a correlating quiz, the students learned that a teenager's brain is limited when processing information related to judgment. However this will improve after the completion of puberty.
Sixth graders Sasha and Nick focused on how the brain reacts to specific sounds, as well as the impact of the prefrontal cortex upon a teenager's decision-making process. A demonstration was prepared using high-pitched frequency sounds to indicate how the brain makes specific correlations.
Another demonstration showed that a teenager's rational thought process will not reach full potential until age 24.
