— Michelle Azu, MD, FACS, will be joining Chilton Hospital as director of The Breast Center’s Surgical Program on Oct. 1. Her office will be located in The Breast Center to allow her to provide the most convenient access to care for patients.
“I look forward to working with Chilton’s primary care physicians, OB-GYNs, radiologists, oncologists, plastic surgeons and general surgeons very soon,” Azu said. “I am honored to join the Chilton team and work side by side with Chilton’s exceptional clinicians and staff. I am already communicating with The Breast Center’s medical director, Dr. Lisa Bash, to enhance the processes of breast care delivery that will allow Chilton Hospital to continue to be a pinnacle of success.”
Azu is board certified and will bring to Chilton a wealth of breast surgical oncology experience. She is currently an assistant professor for the Department of Surgery/Division of Surgical Oncology at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and The Cancer Institute of New Jersey. She is also an assistant professor for the Department of Epidemiology/School of Public Health at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
Azu completed her breast surgery fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center/Weill Medical College of Cornell University in 2009. She has received many academic and scholarly honors while in training and during her clinical practice years, and is an often-invited speaker at both public and professional meetings dedicate to helping women with breast cancer. She has been involved in numerous research activities throughout her career in an effort to improve our understanding of breast cancer. She was recently invited to present some of her research at the Society of Surgical Oncology’s 65th Annual Conference. Azu is equally passionate about community outreach, and fervently believes that breast health awareness, coupled with excellence in breast diagnosis and treatment, can and will continue to save lives.
