WEST MILFORD An old West Milford friend has opened a new and different kind of establishment here in town. Jack Sommers has been in this town for 30 years and just about everyone knows him as a warm and friendly guy who loves to have a good time. He has opened not only a restaurant, but a gathering place for locals to enjoy live music, karaoke, activities and an ever-changing menu.
El Rusty Anchor is that place. Sommers has always wanted to open a place like this with a Mexican, Spanish and Jamaican flair as well as a little Tex-Mex mixed in. Sommers's master chef owned a restaurant in Chester, N.J., called Talema, and lends his years of expertise into every meal. Specialty meals will change weekly depending on the fresh produce in season.
Along with an eclectic array of cuisine, specialty drinks are on the menu. A margarita and daiquiri cart will come to your table and mix your drink to your specifications. Each day will be a different drink and food special, such as burrito and beer night. The menu also offers old favorites such as cheeseburgers and childrens meals, a little something for everyone if you're not the adventurous eater.
One of El Rusty Anchor's recent patrons, Kathy, had a grilled cheese sandwich and said it was the best she ever had. Mark Holmes, a 40-year friend, said that Sommers has the personality and friendly style to make this place a success.
Although El Rusty Anchor had been filled with people eating and enjoying the music, several amazing fish tanks and warm hospitality, Sommers has not had his official grand opening yet. He is still fine-tuning the menu and wants everything to be perfect for the big day. But dont let that stop you from coming in and checking out this new restaurant that is turning things up a notch.
El Rusty Anchor is located at 1555 Greenwood Lake Turnpike, Hewitt. It is open seven days a week from noon to 2 a.m. serving lunch and dinner. It is also available for parties and catering. For more information, call Sommers at 973-728-3500.
