WEST MILFORD – The town’s Elks Lodge held a very successful toy drive Saturday with more than 100 people stopping by the lodge on Union Valley Road with toys for the less fortunate in the community.
“Every year we have a pretty big turnout,” Kim Powell, special children’s’ communications chairwoman said as the toys piled up under the Christmas tree in the lodge’s back room. “
Powell said the people donating come from around the region, including Lodi, Pompton Lakes and even New York State.
She said the lodge is very active all year long with some 260 members.
She also said the lodge helps those in need from around the region as well, including families struck by medical issues, fires, and other hardships.
Powell said the success of the West Milford lodge is due to its activities and the benefits people get from being a part of it.
“You can have fun and get something done at the same time,” she said.
In addition to families and children, the lodge also helps out veterans and other groups.
“If anybody needs anything, reach out,” Powell said. “Whatever they come to us with, we try and find a way (to help).”
Powell said the lodge is open to the public and anyone that might want to join the lodge should “just come down.”
