The West Milford Elks recently purchased its first defibrillator with help from Ken Cuneo, president of the West Milford First Aid Squad, and the Elks waitresses.
The money for this equipment was saved up by the Elks Friday night dinners waitresses who donated their tips.
Defibrillation is a treatment for life-threatening cardiac dysrhythmias and ventricular fibrillation. Defibrillation delivers a dose of electrical energy to the heart with a defibrillator. Many public areas have defibrillators, including schools, fields and public buildings.
Lodge representatives said they are grateful to Cuneo as well as the waitresses who were very thoughtful helping to provide a much-needed piece of equipment.
Lessons on how to properly use the defibrillator will be given to members.
