WEST MILFORD — On the heels of filling resigned positions of another elementary school principal at Westbrook School and a vice principal at the high school this year, and with interim staff in place for director of Special Services and director of Highlander Academy positions, the West Milford School District now has another administrator position to fill- the high school principal.
West Milford High School Principal Paul Gorski announced via a Honeywell Alert System email message to high school parents Monday that he will be transferring to a different administrative position in the district at his own request “due to family reasons.” The message did not specify which new position Gorski would be transferring to.
Gorski began his career teaching social studies at Hunterdon Central Regional High School in Flemington where he worked for more than 10 years, from September 1998 to December 2008. West Milford School district hired Gorski in December 2008 as the supervisor of social studies for the entire district and coordinator/supervisor of district testing. In September 2011, Gorski was appointed principal when former high school principal Maureen Bernstock suddenly announced her retirement. Gorski applied for and was appointed the position, reportedly beating out 18 other candidates for the job. Gorski officially took the helm as high school principal on Oct. 1, 2011 and has continued in that position to the present day.
According to Gorski’s Aug. 11 announcement message to parents, high school Assistant Principal Nicholas Pollaro will become acting principal of the high school until an interim principal is named by the district.
Superintendent of Schools Dr. James McLaughlin was unavailable for comment before press time, but sent a statement via email Wednesday saying he hopes to announce an interim principal for West Milford High School on Tuesday, Aug. 19, which is the next scheduled meeting of the West Milford Board of Education. The meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in the Westbrook School Media Center.
