WEST MILFORD — Brenda Ludwig, World Language Supervisor for West Milford Schools, announced that the West Milford High School recently offered an American Sign Language (ASL) class for college credit and will do so again in the fall of 2015.
Sara Pra, an adjunct from Passaic County Community College, taught the students ASL after school this past fall. The students paid $180 for three college credits, and will also receive five credits on their high school transcripts.
"It was fantastic that we had the experience of a college course at West Milford High School," said Rebecca Byrne one of the students who took the course. "The course was challenging, because we had to always communicate without speaking. It made the students feel close. I learned about the culture of the deaf community. I liked the course so much, that I plan on taking American Sign Language when I go to college."
