NEWFOUNDLAND — Each year, Maria Glaser-Roeser, owner of Stonehill Pottery in Newfoundland, hosts her Holiday Boutique the last two weekends in November. This year is no different except for the additional vendors coming to sell their unique gifts at the boutique.
They include West Milford's Rita Roykovich's "Inspired" jewelry line, which Glaser-Roeser describes as "funky and exciting." Also from West Milford is Donna Scott whose ginger bread cookies are both adorable and delicious.
Paula Drake from Greenwood Lake, N.Y., will be there with her hand-sewn novelties. Ann Giller of Franklin has a line of sachets made with herbs. Giller is from Degade Garden.
And of course there is the creative and beautiful work done by Glaser-Roeser. She creates both functional and decorative pieces, including piggy banks, bowls, and dishes.
“I love to sculpt and I like to mix my decorative and functional pottery,” said Glaser-Roeser. That is how she came up with her lines of functional pottery, complete with lids that feature favorite animals, including cows, hens, rabbits and goats. These pieces are made to use. But when they are not in use, they are beautiful to look at.
There are small gifts at great prices and larger works of art. There's something for everyone at the Holiday Boutique.
This year, Glaser-Roeser worked diligently to get her hand-crafted pottery ready for the show only to have no power thanks to Superstorm Sandy. She was able to use her pottery wheel - thanks to her generator - but couldn't fire anything until her power was returned. But she will be ready for the boutique this weekend and next.
