Sunday is the Monthly Blood drive

WEST MILFORD Sunday, Sept. 21, is the Monthly Blood Drive at the West Milford First Aid Squad Building from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“Every year around this time our thoughts turn to Sept. 11, 2001, and everyone remembers it in different ways,” said organizer Jim Gilligan.”One memory I have was that the Monthly Blood Drive was scheduled for the following Sunday (9/16) and, as expected, we were mobbed. Everyone felt helpless and wanted to do something and giving blood was a common response. It was the only time we ever closed early because, as it turned out, we were collecting too much blood with no immediate use for it (blood and platelets have a definite shelf life—it can’t be stored forever).”

There continue to be emergencies, traumas and sickness that require blood donations.

The West Milford First Aid Squad is located at 619 Ridge Road, by the library.

Come help out at Wallisch Homestead and buy a few things

WEST MILFORD The Friends of Wallisch will be at work on Sunday, Sept. 27, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. installing the new trail signs, which were supplied by Ramapo College. The repairs to the Purple Martin Bird House will also begin. They also hope to have some booths set up in conjunction with the Town wide garage sale, so there will be plenty to do and see.

The group will replace the signs which were faded by the sun. These new graphics were manufactured utilizing a state of the art photo printing system.

The Friends hope to build on their relationship with Ramapo to develop and present educational programs for the community on site. All part of their Master Plan of utilizing the Homestead as the Wallisch Brothers envisioned when they left the tract to the community in their passing several years ago.

The Friends will also be participating in the town-wide garage sale that same day, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. There is furniture to offer, along with some gently used tools. Anyone who wishes to set up a table is invited. The Friends of Wallisch will not charge a few but would appreciate a donation to continue its restoration efforts.

For more information, visit them on Facebook or contact wallischhomestead@gmail.com. Or attend their monthly meetings at Hillcrest Community Center the first Thursday of every month at 8 p.m.
