In this gift giving season, give blood

— Here’s a gift to put on your giving list - blood. This Sunday, Dec. 16, is the Monthly Blood Drive at the West Milford First Aid Squad on Ridge Road.

The need for blood is constant, but in the winter months it is especially urgent. All types of blood are needed but there is a special urgency for negative types.

“We are counting on our faithful donors to help us through the holiday season,” said Jim Gilligan, organizer of the blood drive, in an email. “Traditionally, donations slow, but unfortunately the need never takes a holiday.”

Bring a friend or family member to donate. First timers are always welcome and no appointments are necessary.

Here’s some incentive for those who have donated twice in 2012 - this is the last time to donate for the year. Three-time givers earn an invitation to the Donor Appreciation Breakfast in January. Roll up your sleeve and make your way over to the first aid squad building.

So before making one more trip to the mall or to visit a friend, give a very special gift this holiday season. And if you are so inclined, bring a commonly used item to be donated to Operation Thank You, which will be sent to service men and women overseas.

Stop by on Sunday, Dec. 16, between 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. to give a life-saving gift this holiday season.

The West Milford First Aid Squad is located at 619 Ridge Road in West Milford.
